
Sister Virginia Marie Kauffmann, of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, passed away peacefully on Dec. 11, 2024, at the age of 86. She served as an educator in the Diocese of Richmond from 1988 until 2003. A funeral Mass was offered at the Convent of Mercy in Merion, Pennsylvania, Dec. 21.
Sister Virginia Marie joined the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas in 1955, choosing “Having Him, I have all” as her motto. From 1988 until 1991, she was the assistant principal at Walsingham Academy, Williamsburg; from 1991 until 2003, she served as principal of Walsingham Academy. She also served as a teacher and administrator at many schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, and for two years in the Diocese of Raleigh.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Marie Kauffmann, as well as her four brothers. In addition to the sisters in her religious community, she is survived by loving nieces and nephews.
