In Memoriam: Deacon David S. Kohut

Deacon David S. Kohut, who was serving as deacon of St. John the Evangelist, Waynesboro, passed away April 5. His funeral will take place at St. John the Evangelist on April 17.

Deacon Kohut was ordained in the Diocese of Trenton in 2003 and assigned to St. John the Evangelist Sept. 1, 2018. He was a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus, most recently serving as the Grand Knight of St. John the Evangelist Council 10760.

He graduated with a bachelor’s in sociology from the University of Delaware, a master’s in medical sociology from Jersey City State College, and a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Seton Hall University. He served as a substance abuse counselor, educator, hospice nurse, and psychiatric nurse, as well as in many volunteer positions in his community.

After retiring from his career, Deacon Kohut pursued his passion of painting, and exhibited many of his original paintings at the Shenandoah Valley Arts Center, of which he was a member.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Karen Coakley Kohut; his three daughters, Aileen, Colleen, and Kerri; five grandchildren; two younger brothers; and many nieces and nephews.
