Bishop Barry C. Knestout instituted the Rite of Acolyte upon 14 men at St. Mary Catholic Church, Richmond, Friday evening, May 7. The ministry of acolyte allows these candidates for the permanent diaconate to give Holy Communion to the faithful at the liturgy and to the sick, and to assist priests in carrying out their ministries.

These men will be ordained to the permanent diaconate on Saturday, Sept 25, at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, Richmond.
