What We’ve Heard – Jan. 8, 2024

Spreading the Christmas Spirit: For 15 years, the social hall at Church of the Transfiguration, Fincastle, has been the central distribution site for the Botetourt County Angel Tree program. This year, over 260 children received toys, clothing and other gifts as part of the program.

The parish community also participated in other projects throughout the holiday season. The Circle of Mary women’s group, Transfiguration youth group, Knights of Columbus and administrator Father Paul Lagco all participated in relief programs, providing gift bags, meals, coats and other items for those in need.

Boy Scout Honored: David Gosik, parishioner of St. Matthew, Virginia Beach, was elected Dec. 27, 2023, to serve as National Chief of the Order of the Arrow, the honor society of the Boy Scouts of America.

Gosik is a member of Scouts BSA Troop 303, based at St. Matthew’s Catholic School. Currently a freshman at the University of Virginia, Gosik and his leadership team will be setting policy and directing the National Program of the Order of the Arrow throughout the United States in 2024.

Gosik is the third scout from Troop 303 to be elected National Chief since 2017.
