
Deacon Peter Jay Menting, who served at Church of the Nativity, Buckingham (now closed); Immaculate Heart of Mary, Blackstone; St. Theresa, Farmville; and Sacred Heart, Meherrin, passed away June 18.
Deacon Menting moved to Blackstone in 1988, two years after he was ordained a deacon. He proudly served in the United States Navy. His family remembers him as an amazing woodworker and clockmaker.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Diane May Menting; his children, William Menting (Christine), Ellen Marie Bradley (Fred), Diane Marie Gendrow (Charles), and John Nolan; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; his brother, Reid Menting (Marilyn); and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father Tony Morris at 12 p.m. on Saturday, July 12, at St. Theresa, Farmville. Deacon Menting will be buried at the cemetery at Sacred Heart, Meherrin, the following day.
