Nathan “Nate” Martin Hess passed away Nov. 11, 2024, in Virginia Beach at the age of 80. A funeral Mass was held Nov. 26 at Church of the Ascension in Virginia Beach.
One of Mr. Hess’ sons is Father Christopher Hess, pastor of Immaculate Heart of Mary, Blackstone; Sacred Heart, Meherrin; and St. Theresa, Farmville.
Mr. Hess was born Aug. 14, 1944, in Pennsylvania. He graduated from North Carolina State University and served 22 years in the U.S. Navy, retiring as a Lieutenant Commander.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Menno and Amy Hess; sister, Eunice Jones; and brother, John Hess.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Hess; children, Father Chris Hess, Philip Hess and wife Terra, Sarah Giardini and husband James; grandchildren, Luca, Emma, and Molly; siblings, Rachael Ruhl, Daniel Hess, Mariam Kreider, Rhoda Knapp, Mary Angell, and Caleb Hess; along with a wide circle of extended family and friends.
