Pinwheels at PCRS (above): In recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month, students and teachers from Portsmouth Catholic Regional School, Portsmouth, planted pinwheels outside the school on April 25. Women’s Giving Circle announces grant recipients (below): The Women’s Giving Circle announced this year’s grant awardees May 7 at the Pastoral Center, Richmond. Margaret Keightley, executive director of the Catholic Community Foundation of the Diocese of Richmond, announced the recipients during a luncheon after Mass. The Women’s Giving Circle is a philanthropic group of women that chooses causes each year to support.
This year, CrossOver Healthcare Ministry was awarded $7,500 to purchase equipment for their community pharmacy; Northstar Academy, Glen Allen, was awarded $7,000 to purchase adaptive physical education equipment; Our Lady of Lourdes School, Richmond, was awarded $7,500 for a new primary school playground; Saint Francis – Manchester was awarded $10,718 to cover the renovation of two residential rooms; and The Virginia Home received $5,000 for the purchase of four Carendo multipurpose hygiene/shower chairs.

Bed-building service day at Pastoral Center (below) On April 25, diocesan employees at the Pastoral Center, Richmond, participated in a service day hosted by Sleep in Heavenly Peace, a nonprofit dedicated to building beds for children in need. Throughout the morning, volunteers sanded lumber, treated the wood, and built frames. Ten beds were built for Sleep in Heavenly Peace by 12:30 p.m. that afternoon, to be assembled onsite at children’s homes. (Photos/The Catholic Virginian)
