photo: outside of st mary's in blacksburg. After a decade of planning, building and a wide array of members’ hands-on efforts, St. Mary’s Parish in Blacksburg has completed its new church. Bishop Francis X. DiLorenzo will dedicate it at a Mass on Tuesday, July 29, at 6 p.m. There will be a reception following. Ground was broken on the building site in June, 2006, and pastor Father James Arsenault estimates cost of the entire project, including the purchase of the 35-acre site of the church, to be $9 million. On June 8 this year the first Mass was held in the new sanctuary that seats 800. The church is located at 1205 Old Mill Road, off Price Fork Road west of downtown Blacksburg.
