New diocesan intern to promote CCHD
The Diocese of Richmond has received a grant from the national office of the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) to fund an intern as part of its national Internship Placement Program.
CCHD is the U.S. Bishops’ domestic anti-poverty program and provides local and national grants to combat the root causes of poverty.
Lauren Cunningham, a Religious Studies major from Virginia Commonwealth University, will be serving as the intern for the diocese this summer and fall.
As part of her internship, she will develop ways to promote the campaign throughout the diocese, including the multi-media communication vehicles.
“I feel that by promoting the dynamic and successful 38 year history of CCHD along with the communities which are benefitting by CCHD funded groups, people will sincerely want to support these programs which are breaking the cycle of poverty,” Ms. Cunningham says.
Colleen Barranger, diocesan director of CCHD, and Ms. Cunningham recently attended an internship orientation at the offices of the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops in Washington, D.C.
“CCHD seeks to give our brothers and sisters in Christ a hand up, not a hand out,” Ms. Cunningham said. “Believing that people are persons of dignity and worth in charge of their own destinies is a message that we can stand behind as Catholics seeking justice.”
