Several new additions have been made to the Diocese of Richmond Pastoral Center.
Among them at left is one of the earliest renderings of Christ who is depicted as the Good Shepherd wearing Roman dress and carrying a lamb over his shoulder.
It is a copy of the original in the Vatican Museum and was purchased by Msgr. Thomas F. Shreve, Vicar General, during a trip to Rome. It is seen in the lobby of the Pastoral Center.
The ceramic figure of the Madonna and Child which is in the chapel. It was crafted by Italian artist Eugenio Pattarino (1885–1971) in Florence and formerly was part of the Bishop’s House. Bishop John J. Russell, who served as 10th Bishop of Richmond from 1958 to 1973, is believed to have purchased the piece. Both art works are on polished granite bases.
In the photo at right Msgr. Shreve and John Murphy, director of Facilities Management, watch as workers place the granite base in the lobby.
